The PDP National hierarchy has waved constitutional impediments which would have prevented the duo of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Maj.General Buba Marwa from contesting the forthcoming governorship election under its platform. Ribadu and Marwa were formerly of the All Progressives Congress, APC, before defecting to their new party. The courtesy was also extended to Marcus Gundiri, another defector to the PDP.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the aspirants satisfied the party’s conditions, and assured transparency in selection of the party’s candidate for the bye-election.
Metuh said the decision was taken, "After very careful and thorough consideration of all applications and the report of the Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha-led Adamawa State PDP Governorship Waiver Committee.
“Consequently, waiver has been granted to General Buba Marwa, Engr. Marcus Gundiri and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to take part in the exercise.”
Metuh also debunked allegations that the members were divided on whether or not to grant waiver to the defectors.
“The NWC debunks speculations that its members were divided on the grant of the waiver and reiterates that the decision to open the space for wider participation was unanimously adopted after very extensive deliberations," Metuh said.
