The Nigeria Police, Edo State Command, recorded a feat in its war against armed robbery, as it smashed an armed robbery gang operating in Benin City, the State capital. The Police said four members of the gang were killed during a gun duel with its men along Ewah road in the Benin metropolis. Before their deaths, the suspected robbers were travelling in a Toyota Camry, with registration number BEN 787 AE, which they snatched at Agbor park in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Noble Uwoh, spokesman for the Command, said in a statement, that the robbers were chased by a Police patrol team, during which gun fire were exchanged. The deceased four were said to have died of the injuries they sustained in the process and before they could be given medical attention. Apart from the deceased robbers, four other members of the gang were arrested with bullet wounds.
Items reported to be recovered from them included, one locally made pistol, a battle axe, two knives and five cartridges. Uwoh said the Police also arrested another member of the robbery gang, John Osagie, reported to have been terrorising residents of Upper Siluko.
Osagie, Uwoh stated, was arrested based on the distress calls the affected residents sent to the Police.
