The Nigerian Police has begun preparations for hitch-free general elections in 2015. A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, has set up 'Elections Security Planning and Monitoring Unit', which will develop frameworks, processes, strategies and systems for effective planning ,monitoring and management.
The security unit will also conduct ' elections security threat assessment, coordinating election security training, developing and implementing guidelines for the conduct of Police officers engaged in election duties'.
Ojukwu said the unit will work with 'stakeholders, Community-based and Civil Society Organisations as well as Non-Governmental Organisations and International Development Partners in ensuring free, fair and credible elections'.
Ojukwu said the IGP has assured he would bring to bear the professionalism of his men in ensuring a free, fair and credible election.
