A self-confessed thief, who hid under a bed to steal from a 70-year old woman, has been remanded in prison custody for attempting to kill his victim inside her house. The thief was angry that he was caught by the woman in her house at the catching him under the bed in Itire Area Lagos.
Thirty-seven-year old Alfred Chibuozo was charged with murder before Ijeshatedo Magistrate’s court for attempting to strangle, Mrs. Ngozi Ojiaku.
He confessed that he actually wanted to kill the woman for obstructing his criminal act and pleaded guilty before the court.
Chibuozo said he respected the woman by hiding under her bed, waiting for her to go out before he would steal her valuables.
But he became annoyed after Ngozi caught him under her bed at 38 Twins Street, Itire, Lagos, where he had hoped to steal.
When the old woman saw him, he came out and attempted to strangle her. The victim raised an alarm that attracted one of her children to come to her rescue.
Chibuozo was handed over to the police at Itire division who charged him to court.
On arraignment, he pleaded guilty.
The presiding Magistrate ordered him to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter till 15 September 2014 for facts and sentence.
