Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has, today, Friday, signified he would vie for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC in 2015.

Atiku said his latest presidential ambition was not about him, but of larger interests, including the young, and Nigerians generally.
“This is not about me, it is about our young people. It is about Nigerians. It is their future, not the past. It is about reforming government, securing the people and reconciling the nation,” he said.
Shehu stressed that his principal believed the 2015 election would be a watershed for the country and so compelled to help Nigerians “redefine Nigeria as a place for them and their children to prosper and feel safe.
“Turaki is of the view that 2015 is special and a potential turning point in Nigeria’s history – that we need to seize the moment, to give every Nigerian a chance to help redefine Nigeria as a place for them and their children to prosper and feel safe.
“He says a change is needed now, and he is ready to lead that change,” the former Vice President was further quoted as saying in the statement.
Shehu said the former Aviation Minister, Professor Babalola Aborisade, would anchor the presidential campaign.
Shehu praised Babalola’s ingenuity in handling the task.
Babalola, Shehu said, is “a well-known political strategist who worked for the victory of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and thereafter, late Chief M. K. O. Abiola on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party, SDP.”
Aside, the professor was also reputed to have worked as a strategist for the electoral triumphs of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the 1999 and 2003 elections.
There are speculations Atiku is currently pressuring his known political movement, the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, to collapse into the APC.
To shore up support for Atiku’s fourth presidential aspiration, his support group, the Turaki Vanguard, has begun a nationwide political mobilisation. Based on Atiku’s declaration for the office, he will be squaring up with others rumoured to be nursing similar ambitions in the party. They include former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwakawaso ; publisher of Leadership newspapers, Nda Isa Isaiah and Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
