The Big Brother Africa house was gutted by a ’devastating fire,’ the handlers of the reality show has said. In a statement issued in Johannesburg, South Africa, by M-Net and Endemol, the cause of the blaze was unknown and would be investigated soon. The incident has compelled the organisers to postpone the launch of this year’s edition of the show, earlier scheduled for 7 September. Part of the statement reads: “At this stage M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house to film the production. However, as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements an alternative is not immediately available. Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue.” No life was lost in the incident.
