The Nigerian Army on Sunday said it foiled a planned attack on Konduga by Islamic fundamentalists of the Boko Haram sect. The defence headquarters tweeted that the terrorists aimed to recover the corpses of some of its fighters killed in previous clashes with soldiers. It also said five terrorists surrendered and turned in their arms to the troops to avoid being killed. “And as the heat on terrorists continues, five terrorists yesterday surrendered with all their weapons to troops at Konduga pleading for mercy”. “Other captured terrorists have also been giving useful information on the subsequent plans of the group in an apparent offer to co-operate,” the tweet read. The Nigerian Army in renewed ferocious onslaughts in past weeks seemed to have substantially reversed the territorial advances the Islamic terrorist sect previously gained.
