Nigerian Army spokesman, Brigadier Chris Olukolade is reported to have recanted that some Chibok girls were this evening released by their abductors. According to Premium Times, Olukolade, who reportedly earlier confirmed the release of the girls, said he had difficulty establishing contacts with his colleagues in Maiduguri. He therefore withdrew his statement made 30 minutes earlier.

There are reports that a yet-to-be-ascertained number of kidnapped Chibok girls have been released. Information gathered from military sources claimed that the freed girls were driven in two Toyota Hiace , this evening, into the Maimalari Barracks, the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State. Military spokesman, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade was said to have confirmed the story, promising to give the details of their release later.
