Manchester City Football Club and Chelsea Football Club Wednesday night both secured their passage to the fourth round of the English Capital One Cup after defeating their respective opponents.
While Manchester City scored seven goals against Sheffield Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium, Chelsea outclassed Bolton 2-1 at the Stamford Bridge.
Edin Dzeko and Frank Lampard both bagged a brace as Manchester City came out victorious, while Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure and Jose Pozo were also on the scoresheet for the home side as they comfortably progressed.
The Championship side, who have only conceded four times in the League this season, more than held their own in the first half and might have led through Gary Madine before Eliaquim Mangala struck the post for the hosts.
Kurt Zouma and Oscar scored for Chelsea as they also advanced but Matt Mills briefly gave the Championship side hope of being a giant killer when he equalised following Zouma's opener, but the Blues would not be denied a progression.
Chelsea’s victory was a welcome one for Coach Jose Mourinho, who had watched his side held to 1-1 draws by Schalke and Manchester City in the last seven days.
