There are indications that the impeached deputy governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, would reject his redeployment to the state civil service. Following his impeachment by the state legislature, Governor Sullivan Chime redeployed Onyebuchi to the civil service.

The Enugu State Government, through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, justified Onyebuchi’s redeployment, saying it reflects Chime’s magnanimity.

Achife said the red

eployment was in order as neither Onyebuchi formally resign his appointment from the civil service before he was elected as deputy governor nor was his appointment

The former deputy governor was a permanent secretary in the civil service before venturing into politics.

But it was gathered that he was demoted to the rank of a deputy director in his redeployment, which was confirmed by the Enugu State Government on Monday.

An aide to Onyebuchi, who did not wish to be named, described the redeployment as a joke and claimed that his boss

resigned his appointment before venturing into politics.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in a statement, accused Chime of impunity.

In the statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Kate Offor, the party said: “It is our considered view that Enugu State civil service has no room for theatre of the absurd; where Governor Chime, who owns a poultry farm with Chief Onyebuchi in Government House and is equally culpable, will now wash his hands off like Pontius Pilate.”
