Lawyer Lands In Prison For N1.4m Fraud

An Ejigbo Magistrate Court in Lagos, has ordered that a lawyer, Ahmed Marcus, 52, be remanded in prison for defrauding a certain Preboye Douiye of N1.4m. Marcus and his son, who is at large, allegedly collected the money from the South-Africa based Douiye with a promise to help him get a job and an accommodation, which they did not. The matter was later reported at the Idimu Police Station, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Police prosecutor told the court, presided over by Mr. P.E. Nwaka, that Marcus committed an offence by stealing and obtaining money through false pretence. Marcus, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a bail bond of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum. Although Magistrate Nwaka adjourned the case till 13 October, but ordered that Marcus be detained till he was able to perfect his bail condition.
