A report from Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, today said 13 new cases of crippling polio virus have been detected in Pakistan, taking this year’s total to 158.
The report further stated the new cases were confirmed yesterday by the National Institute of Health in Islamabad, the country’s capital.
A health personnel explained that seven of the cases were reported from the tribal regions and three in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
Three other provinces, also a recorded a case each, bringing the country’s national figure to 158 cases: 113 from tribal regions, 27 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, 12 from Sindh, two from Punjab and three from Balochistan.
The report noted that the infection rate had increased since 2012 when 58 cases were reported and 93 in 2013.
Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are said to be the only countries with polio virus
