A 60-year old woman and mother of 15 children, Victoria Sorkibulor, has been arrested by the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Bayelsa State for stealing crude oil. Sorkibulor, also known as ‘Mama Militant’, was arrested when the NSCDC men swooped on two men who claimed to be working for her. The duo reportedly led the agents to Sorkibulor at Fish Town, the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. Sorkibulor, who was described as being notorious for the crime, said she has repented. NSCDC Bayelsa Commandant, Desmond Agu, who led the suspects before journalists, said they were arrested while off-loading the stolen crude. He added that 20 drums of Kerosene and diesel, which the suspects had illegally refined, were seized. Other items said to have been recovered from them were six Yamaha machines, three pumping machines, seven hoses and a locally-made boat, which was destroyed immediately after their arrest. Agu said the NSCDC would not “rest on our oars until we fight illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism to a standstill”, while naming Goodnews Kurai, Babangida James, Daniel Sokebolou and David Ayibadigenmi as other suspects arrested by the command for similar offences.
