Ogun State: LG Boss Suspended Over ‘Gross Misconduct’

The Chairman of Imeko Afon Local Government Council, in Ogun State, Isiaka Wale Aderounmu, was, yesterday, Thursday, suspended from office for alleged high-handedness and mismanagement of council funds. Wale was removed by the twelve councillors in the council, who listed 13 offences committed by him.

The councils alleged that Wale failed to remit the sum of N5million generated by the council from hiring its bulldozers. He was also said to have awarded contracts to his cronies, and ignored five invitations to appear before the House of Assembly probing him.

Wale was also accused of leasing council properties for public use without due process, one of which was the 10-year lease of the 2,600 stand of palm trees at Idosemo plantation. The embattled chairman have faulted the allegations against him, and that he has not received any letter of suspension from the councillors.

He said though he supervises the local government account, he is not a signatory to it and asked the councillors to rather ask the council treasurer for the account statement. He also said that he was still performing his functions as at the time we called for his response.

“As I speak with you, I am in my office with a whole lot of Council Directors, I have not received any letter to that effect. I am the Executive Chairman of the local government, I supervise the account of the local government, but I am not a signatory to the account,” he said.
