Rivers State All Progressives Congress, APC, on Sunday, said President Goodluck Jonathan was ignorant of the current political realities in the state, hence his boast that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would win the governorship election in 2015. President Jonathan, at the South-South leg of his unity rally, last Saturday, said his party would win back Rivers and Edo States from the opposition parties.
Senior Special Adviser on Media to Rivers State APC chairman, Davies Ikanya, Chukwuemeka Eze, dismissed the president’s statement as ‘ridiculous’ and unreflective of happenings in the state.
In a statement by him, Eze said, “This boast made on Saturday by President Jonathan during the PDP’s South-South rally in Benin City, the Edo State capital, is ridiculous because it runs counter to the realities on ground in Rivers State… is obviously based on ignorance about current political realities in Rivers State.
Eze said the governorship ambition of the Minister of State for Education, Nyesome Wike, who the president perceivably supports, “has polarised the PDP in Rivers State to the extent that it cannot even win a councillorship seat in a free and fair election.”
“Wike (Minister of State for Education) is either deluding himself or deliberately feeding Mr. President with lies in a bid to feather his nest,” Eze said.
The statement further accused President Jonathan of ceding oil wells belonging to Rivers to Bayelsa State, as well as ‘supporting Akwa Ibom and Abia states to take over our oil wells.’ It queried why the state electorate should vote the PDP, when President Jonathan “has ensured that the Federal Government does not cite any meaningful project in Rivers State or his deliberate refusal to implement the UNEP Report on Ogoni… and has left no one in doubt of his deep hatred for Rivers State and her people.”
