At least 30 persons were feared dead and many injured after explosions rocked the Federal College of Education in Kano.
Ikechukwu Eze, the spokesperson for the military Joint Task Force, , confirmed the attack. Eze said government troops have arrived at the school.
Residents of the area and witnesses said several explosions occurred, followed by sporadic gunshots at about 1.30pm today.
The details of the blast are yet unclear, but witnesses said armed men invaded the school, shot dead a security personnel at the gate of the school before throwing improvised explosives at students and shooting those who tried to escape.
The area has been deserted as residents and students scampered for safety, our reporter said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but a terrorist group, Boko Haram that has carried out series of such attacks in the north-east is major suspect.
