Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu has denied he and his Jigawa State counterpart, Sule Lamido, tricked Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi from defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The governor also debunked the allegation, said to have been reported by an online medium, that he tipped Amaechi to vie as presidential running mate to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, in 2015.
Aliyu, who spoke through his media aide, Israel Ebije, said those behind the report were hired to mislead the public to promote narrow interests of their sponsors.
“Why should we be the ones to ask him to run for Vice President when he is capable of pursuing any career of his choice without our counsel?
“I believe those behind the publication have been hired to mislead Nigerians. They intend to engage in wrong claims purposely to satisfy the narrow interest of their paymasters,” Aliyu queried. The governor described the activities of the authours of the report as ‘rogue journalism,’ which he asked them to desist from.
