The newly built Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State will be commissioned on 6 November 2014, newsbreak.ng has been informed.
The 30-000 capacity, all–covered facility with a bullet –proof State Box for 70 persons, is one of the most magnificent sporting infrastructure on the African continent.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football, CAF has said it will send officials to inspect the stadium, thst has been proposed to stage next month’s AFCON qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa. Initially, CAF raised the issue of the fact that the venue had not yet been inspected and therefore would not stand a chance of hosting the match.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF assured CAF of the quality of the facility and the readiness of the Akwa Ibom State Government to guarantee safety and security of all persons at the match. On Tuesday, CAF agreed to send an official to check out the venue next week, as the NFF push ahead with all arrangements to have a hitch –free match between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday, 19 November.
