Sierra Leone could be banned from international football by football governing body, FIFA, should they fail to resolve the coaching issue. This comes after the country’s Sports Minister, Paul Kamara, appointed Coach Atto Mensah and his assistant John Sama as replacements for Johnny McKinstry, who was recently relieved of his duties.
However, according to Sierra Leone Football Association, SLFA, Mensah does not have the necessary qualifications to lead the national team and they have roped in John Ajina Sesay as the new head coach with Abdulai Bah set to assist him. “We understand that the Minister of Sports has taken several unilateral decisions with regard to the upcoming AFCON 2015 qualifiers supposed to take place in Cameroon on 11 and 15 October 2015,” FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke was quoted as saying in a letter to SLFA boss, Isha Johansen. It appears that the minister has appointed different persons to technical positions linked to the national team, including coaches, without the involvement or the approval of the SLFA. As stated in many opportunities, the FIFA status obliges its members to manage their affairs independently and without influence of any third parties.’’
