In a press statement issued and signed by Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, the police said the three men were among some suspected cultists, who carried out the crime.

DSP Kalu said what prompted the suspected cultists to take to the street in solidarity, molesting innocent persons and collecting their handsets was the death of a suspected armed robber and cultist whose name was given simply as Oghale (alias China), at an undisclosed hospital in Ozoro.

The dead suspect who is alleged to be very notorious for raping his victims, was reportedly rushed to the hospital with bullet wounds by two men on a motorcycle a day before the protest.

Shortly after the duo dropped the victim, they allegedly zoomed off on the pretext that they were going to call the victim’s mother, but never returned to the hospital.

Following a report of the incident at the Uzoro Police Division, at about 8:30 pm on Sunday, detective operatives from the Division were dispatched to the said hospital where they met the said Oghale dead.

The police said he was wearing a T-shirt with Viking Confraternity Cult group badge, with one live cartridge recovered from his pocket. ‎The police said the suspects will be arraigned in court at the end of ongoing investigation.
