The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission has denied an alleged plan by it to award victory to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the local councils election in the state. The state All Progressives Congress, APC, on Thursday, accused the electoral body of planning to rig for the PDP, a development for which the latter have begun to jubilate. Chidi Okonji, Delta APC Publicity Secretary, said so during a briefing to journalists in Asaba, the capital of Delta State. He warned the electoral body of impending protests, especially from women and interest groups. Okonji said the women would protest nude and rain curses on the DEISEC members, if such plan was carried out.
The DSIEC Chairman, Moses Ogbe, denounced the allegation as lacking proof. Rather he said the body obtained a CD containing registered voters from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and had not cooked up fictitious names. Ogbe said voters names across the state’s16 local councils have been printed and would be displayed in line with the electoral timetable. He said the body would no longer tolerate the antics of the APC of always raising false alarm.
