Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, cleverly evaded the Bayelsa State delegation, led by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, at the 57th birthday celebration of President Jonathan in Abuja on Thursday.
There was not a single member of the National Assembly from the state on the delegation.
The relationship between Mrs. Jonathan and Governor Dickson has been frosty for some time. It is widely believed that the president's wife is opposed to the governor's re-election bid.
Mrs. Jonathan is said to have mobilized Federal lawmakers from the state against Dickson.
The President, however, attempted to play down his wife's absence when the delegation visited, saying:.
“On behalf of my wife who just left, I sincerely thank you the governor, the government and our traditional rulers and our brothers and sisters from the state who have done this.”
Dickson had earlier told Jonathan that the delegation was in the Presidential Villa to show their solidarity, support and love to him on his birthday.
He also said contrary to reports, Bayelsa State was united, stable and peaceful.
The governor later told State House correspondents that he would not dignify those claiming that there is a rift between him and the President with a response.
