Chairman, Kauru Local Government Area, Usman Shehu Ibrahim; his deputy, Paul Yerima and Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the††Council, Timothy Chindo, all of Kaduna State, were arraigned Thursday before a state High Court for embezzling N68 million. A three-count charge of conspiracy and breach of trust was preferred against the accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The anti-graft agency told Justice Tukur Mu’azu that the respondents, in †February, 2013, fraudulently misappropriated the Councilís share of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, funds. The money (N68m) was for the renovation of primary healthcare centres, primary schools, construction of boreholes and purchase of poverty alleviation materials across the eleven wards that make up the council. The alleged crime, the EFCC say, contravenes the section 312 of the Penal Code.
