The Peoples Democratic Party's determination to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State may well be a pipe dream as crisis is already brewing in the PDP over the outcome of Ward Congress election held last Saturday.
The national headquarters of the PDP had inaugurated the Obed Wadzani led ward congress electoral committee for the purpose of conducting the election of three adhoc delegates.
The election held peacefully in all the 19 local government areas of the state but the result of Epe Local Government Area was cancelled by the electoral committee.
Investigations indicate that some notable and influential chieftains of the party working for the emergence of one of the governorship aspirants were not pleased with the outcome of the election which produced delegates whom they believe would not work for the emergence of their preferred candidate.
To achieve their goal, the chieftains are mounting pressure upon the national leadership of the PDP to cancel the entire outcome of the delegates’ election instead of that of the Epe Local Government Area alone.
According to the report submitted to the party headquarters by the Wadzani-led committee, the election at Epe was canceled based on gross irregularities, but those of the other Local Government Areas were conducted in compliance with the rules and guidelines of the party as directed by the national leadership of the party.
For now, nine aspirants are battling for the party's ticket to contest the forthcoming governorship election in the state. These aspirants include Musiliu Obanikoro; Jimi Agbaje; Ade Dosunmu; ;Deji Doherty; Babatunde Gbadamosi and Dominic Adegbola.
