Samantha Power, United States’ envoy to the United Nations has accused Russia of showing disregard against Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting in New York, Power said NATO had confirmed movement of military equipment and troops from Russia to Ukraine in the last 48 hours. She blamed Russia for fuelling crisis in the troubled Ukraine, a claim Russia's deputy representative, Alexander Pankin, called ‘a propaganda with new flourishes.’ Pankins warned his colleagues against descending into “a farce”. Although the meeting was the 26th the council had called to deliberate the Ukrainian crisis and Russia’s involvement, it yet failed to take action. The allegation of Russia’s moving military equipment into Ukraine had been echoed by General Philip Breedlove, NATO's commander in Europe. Breedlove said they had seen "columns of Russian equipment, primarily Russian tanks, Russian artillery, Russian air defence systems and Russian combat troops entering into Ukraine". Though he could not confirm how many they were, Breedlove said the military equipment were many.
In his report, Al Jazeera's James Bays, said Power considered the tense situation as one "on a knife's edge", fearing it would not slide to the pre-ceasefire agreement between the separatists in East Ukraine and the government in Kiev. According to UN statistics, the conflict in the east has claimed some 4,000 lives.
