Yobe State Govt. Shuts Schools Over Attacks

All public and private schools in Yobe State have been shut by the state government after a suicide bomber attacked Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum, the Commissioner of Education, Muhammad Lamin has said. The attack claimed 48 lives and injured 79 others. Lamin said the decision was taken because the government wants to provide more security to guarantee the safety of the students, teachers and the school environment in the entire state. Senator Alkali Jajere called for a change in strategy adopted by security operatives to contain insurgency in the state. Jajere told journalists in Damaturu that the renewed attacks on innocent people of the state called for a change in strategy in the fight against insurgency. He urged security officials to respect the rules of engagement in their operation, and called for synergy between law enforcement agents and the public, to effectively fight insurgency.
