The funeral rites of late Zambian President, Michael Sata started on Tuesday as the Zambian Government held a state funeral for him, who died last month in a United Kingdom hospital, UK, at the age of 77.
Thousands of people attended the Catholic Mass at the National Heroes Stadium, Lusaka. Regional leaders are amongst those who paid glowing tributes to the deceased.
When the coffin of the late president was brought into the stadium there was a deafening wailing. Sata was elected Zambia's president in 2011. Zambia is now being run by an acting president, and fresh elections will hold in January 2015.
Over the past week, members of the public have paid respects to Sata, his death came days after Zambia celebrated the 50th anniversary of independence from the UK. He was the second Zambian president to die in office.
