The nationwide House of Assembly primary elections of the All Progressives Congress, APC held on Tuesday went on smoothly, as most of the victorious aspirants elected were consensus candidates.
The election in Edo south and central senatorial districts could be described as mere formalty as the consensus arrangement worked perfectly for the party and was devoid of rancor, but in Edo North senatorial district, the aspirants opted to go to the polls to test their popularity.
Ten of the 14 APC lawmakers in the State House of Assembly were returned unopposed in their various constituencies, while four others opted to run for the House of Representatives.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Victor Edoror, immediate past Edo State Commissioner in the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission,NDDC, Henry Okhuarobo and two time former chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Crosby Eribo, emerged candidates to fly the party’s flag in next year's election in Esan Central, Ikpoba Okhai and Egor respectively.
The two House of Assembly members in Ovia North East constituency 1, Sunday Osazemwinde and Bright Osayande constituency 2, were returned. The only female member of the Assembly, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie of Uhumnwonde constiruency, also emerged victorious, while incumbent Commissioner for Sport in the state, Nosa Osazuwa, and Chris Okaeben, emerged as candidate of the party in Oredo West, just as Osaigbovo Iyoha picked a ticket in Oredo East.
Winner of the position of Mr. Peter Aliu of Estako East constituency, who died during a protracted undisclosed ailment just a few days after he obtained expression of interest and nomination forms, and other results from Edo north could not be confirmed.
Speaking on the election, the Special Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Political Matters, Charles Idahosa, described the exercise as peaceful. He urged all those who lost to continue to work for the party, adding, "Because we have many other positions to be filled. Everybody will be accommodated and I thank God that our people did not take it as a do or die affair. Very success outing we are now going to battle with the PDP candidates, we are ready."
