Dare-devil robbers, on Wednesday, shot dead four mobile police officers in Okene, Kogi State. The on-duty policemen were shot dead during a robbery operation at a bank by about 20 bandits, who rode in four vehicles.
Two of the robbers were killed, while some others escaped with gunshot wounds, according to Elvis Aguebor, a deputy superintendent of police and public relations officer of the Kogi State Command.
The police said, “The entire area and all other banks in the town have been reinforced, while frantic efforts are on to track down the fleeing hoodlums.”
It was the second incident of police killing in less than two weeks. In the previous incident, three police officers were said to have been killed during a similar robbery operation at a bank in Egbe in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state. Commercial banks in Okene have shut their doors due to the incessant robbery attacks.
