Super Eagles’ Captain Vincent Enyeama will battle teammate Ahmed Musa and three other footballers for this year Confederation of African Football, CAF, Awards in the African Player of the Year category. There is also the 2014 African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category. CAF, on Sunday, announced the top five nominees for the African Player Awards, among who were the Lille of France goalie, Enyeama, and Musa, who plays for CSKA Moscow.
Others are Asamoah Gyan, (Ghana); Al-Ain (United Arab Emirates (UAE); Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays for Borussia Dortmund in Germany and Manchester City Midfielder, Yaya Toure, from Cote d’Ivoire. Toure is the current holder of the title.
In the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category, Akram Djahnit and El Hedi Belamieri of Algeria, Congo’s ES Setif, Firmin Mubel Ndombe and As Vita, Fakhereddine Ben Youssef of Tunisia and CS Sfaxien, as well as South Africa’s late Senso Meyiwa of Orlando Pirates.
In the female award categories, the duo of Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie (Nigeria); Guingamp, Portia Modise (South Africa); Zenatha Coleman (Namibia) were also nominated. For the Player of the Year (Women) Asisat Oshoala and Uchechi Sunday will contend from Nigeria, alongside Fabrice Ondoa (Cameroon) and Kader Bidimbou (Congo Brazaville). The Most Promising Talent Award category has Clinton N’jie of (Cameroon); Mubele Ndombe (Congo DR) Vincent Aboubakar (Cameroon), Yacini Brahimi (Algeria), among others. Coach of the Year goes up for grab among Nigeria's Stephen Keshi, Rigo Gervais (Cote D’Ivoire), among others. Others Award categories were also announced by the continential football governing body, CAF.
