The Ekiti State election petition tribunal will Friday deliver judgement on the conduct of the state governorship election supposedly won by Governor Ayodele Fayose on 21 June. The All Progressives Congress, APC, whose candidate, Kayode Fayemi, was immensely defeated, has challenged the eligibility of Fayose, of the Peoples Democratic Party, to participate in the process. The APC contends that Fayose’s impeachment in 2006 disqualified him from contesting the election. Another premise upon which the APC is challenging Fayose’s qualification is his alleged embezzlement of state funds preferred agaist him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and currently pending in the court. Counsels to the respondents, among whom are Yusuf Ali, Onyechi Ikpeazu, Abayomi Sadiku and Abdulkadir Ajana, disagreed with Fagbemi. The lawyers posited that petitioner’s claims lacked evidence and urged tghe court to dismiss the petition.
