The Federal Government has asked public servants to sit at home for the two days (Wednesday and Thursday ) the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will be holding its national convention holding at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
A circular issued by Babatope Ajakaiye, a Permanent Secretary (CSO) in the Office of Head of Service, instructed that the Federal Civil Service Complex, Abuja, be closed for the “special event.”
Ajakaiye’s circular reads: “As a result of the special event taking place at the Eagle Square on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th December, 2014, you are hereby informed that all offices in Federal Secretariat Phases 1, II, III and ministry of Foreign Affairs are to be closed on those days.
“However, normal work resumes on Friday, 12th December, 2014.
“Please accept the regards of the Head of the Civil Service of Federation.”
The PDP will be electing the party’s presidential candidate for the 2015 elections. President Goodluck Jonathan, who is supported by various interests and organs within his party structure is sure to pick the ticket, in a ceremony more of formality.
On the same days, the All Progressives Congress, APC, will converge on the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, to do the same. Five aspirants are seeking the party’s presidential ticket, namely Major General Muhammadu Buhari, retd.; ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Governors of Kano and Imo States, Rabiu Kwankwanso and Rochas Okorocha; and publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
