A strategic meeting was held, on Sunday, in the Minna, Niger State home of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida. The meeting, speculated to have deliberated on desirability of extending the emergency rule in Borno State, was attended by Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima; Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, Senator Ali Ndume and other lawmakers representing the state at the National Assembly and some elders from the state. The Leadership newspapers said four unmarked jeeps led by some protocol officials of the Niger State Government House were part of the fleet of vehicles that rolled into Babangida’s expansive hilltop mansion.

The newspapers, quoting a source, said the discussions bore on dissuading influential Nigerians from supporting an extension of the emergency rule in the state and to stop the Federal Government in its track of preventing elections from being held in the troubled state.
