Insincerity and injustice were the reasons given by a former Oyo State governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala for his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the Labour Party, PDP.
Alao-Akala made this disclosure on Monday evening at his Bodija residence, Ibadan, Oyo State. To Akala his defection was concluded on Sunday evening but was made formal on Monday. Abraham Ojo ,media aide to Alao-Akala in a press statement said: “Thousands of supporters of the former governor stormed the Bodija residence to deliberate on the way forward, after the injustice meted to him by the PDP. After series of meetings and discussions, they all decided to dump the PDP and move to an alternative party, which is Labour Party.”
Ojo also debunked reports that they participated in the PDP primaries, he said Akala had made his intention to quit the party known since Sunday, after meeting with his teeming supporters in Ogbomoso and later today (Monday) in Ibadan, even before the process started, “It is laughable and ridiculous to say Alao-Akala scored two votes in the primaries he did not even participate in. He is a political giant who has been a bride to all political parties in the state since the PDP travails started,” Ojo added.
