Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang has appointed his son, Yakubu, Commissioner for Lands and Urban Planning for the state. Until now, Yakubu was Special Adviser on Special Duties to his father, whose tenure of office winds down next year. Last June, Yakubu grabbed news headlines when he instituted a suit at the court to stop the state House of Assembly from probing his father over the his alleged mismanaging of N50 billion SURE-P funds. The older Jang although denied embezzling the funds, his son, Yakubu, did not leave anything to chance as he sought to clog the process. Not a few believe that Yakubu wields a strong influence in his father’s government and instrumental to its running. Could Jang had his way making his son the governorship candidate of his party – the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, many believe, he would.
