Vice President Namadi Sambo, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, Tuesday, at the inauguration of Enugu- Port Harcourt-Enugu intercity train service in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, claimed Nigeria’s economy had been managed to be the greatest in Africa and one of the largest in the world by the current administration.
Sambo said “We have managed the economy such that it has risen to be the greatest economy in Africa and one of the largest in the world.’’
On the intercity train service, Sambo said the administration “have introduced programmes that have impacted positively on the lives of the people and addressed key issues in our national agenda.’’
He said further that, “We have changed the course of history with the railway system in the last 30 years from the neglected sector to a rehabilitated and revitalised one by rehabilitating the existing narrow gauge railway lines, their operations and maintenance.’’ The vice president assured that coastal railway line from Lagos to link up the Niger Delta states with commercial cities in the South-East would be constructed.
Beside, Sambo informed that the Abuja-Kaduna rail project had reached 90 per cent completion stage, while appreciable progress was being made on the Warri- Itakpe project.
These projects, he said, are in fulfilment of the campaign promises President Jonathan made to Nigerians in 2011.
