The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has picked a former National Chairman of the party, Ahmadu Ali, as Director-General of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation.
Ali’s appointment was mentioned by PDP National Secretary, Wale Oladipo, a professor, while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja on Monday. Ali became National Chairman of the PDP during the tenure of Olusegun Obasanjo as president. He was brought in as replacement for Audu Ogbeh, who resigned in a controversial circumstance. Ali is a staunch supporter of Obasanjo, under whom he served as Minister for Education, during the former’s reign as a military head of state. It is not clear if the appointment would placate Obasanjo, who has continually pilloried President Goodluck Jonathan f or his shoddy handling of the economy and Boko Haram insurgency.
Also, Oladipo stated that his party would meet the deadline for submission of candidates lists to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. This is in spite of the controversies primaries by the party have thrown up in states like Anambra, Ogun, Enugu States, etc.
“On Ogun State, INEC has set the 26th of this month as the deadline for the submission of the list of candidates for governorship and House of Assembly members.
“Our party will beat that deadline. As for Anambra, we organised primaries and the names of those who won have been sent to INEC,” Oladipo said.
