Governors Olusegun Mimiko, Ayodele Fayose of Ondo and Ekiti State, alongside a few politicians of the southwest extraction under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Council, on Saturday, said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, was unfit to rule the country.
Also in attendance at were, Ondo State meeting were Minister of state for FCT, Jumoke Akinjide; former governorship candidate of the party in Osun state, Iyiola Omisore; Oyo state governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin; former Minister of state for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; Senators Lekan Balogun, Hosea Agboola, Ayo Adeseun and House of Representative member, Muraina Ajibola. Others were former deputy chairman, (Southwest) of the PDP, Shuab Oyedokun; Kolapo Ogunjobi; Tajudeen Oladipo, Yinka Odumakin, and Femi Fani-Kayode.
Mimiko, who hosted the meeting in Akure, from which a communiqué was issued, urged Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leaders to stop the ‘propaganda machinery of the APC. The communiqué said “the change the opposition mouths is indeed a change from democracy to totalitarianism and dictatorship as represented by the presidential candidate of APC, General Muhamadu Buhari. Mimiko said voting Buhari was hurting the sensibilities of journalists and Yoruba leaders who were jailed during his regime as head of state.
Read by Mimiko, the communiqué further states, “That judging by his temperament, political antecedents and intellectual capacity, General Muhamadu Buhari, the APC candidate is unfit to be the president of Nigeria.”
While they deprecated Buhari, Jonathan was decorated with plaudits by the politicians.
Also, Mimiko said President Jonathan has developed ‘structures and institutions through which the country had evolved cashless financial system, dismantled the fertilizer corruption cartel, improved food security, democratise access to education through the establishment of additional universities, polytechnics and Al-majiri schools and conduct successfully the 2014 National Conference.’
The politicians said they would go from their zone to states, local government, ward and polling units levels to mount their crusade against Buhari and canvass supports for Jonathan.
