The Nigerian Bottling Company, NBC, Limited has donated a bailer to Wecyclers Nigeria Limited, a company that collects waste and disused beverage containers, to aid the company’s expansion and boost its capacity. A bailer is a machine used to compress pet bottles, cans, etc for recycling purposes. The donation, the NBC said, is part of its Extended Producers Responsibility initiative, aimed at promoting environment-friendly activities in the beverage industry.
The equipment was handed to the Wecyclers at the Lagos State Waste Management Agency’s, LAWMA, collection hub in Surulere, Lagos State. Uzo Odenigbo, NBC’s head of public affairs and communications, said their partnership with Wecyclers, other beverage packaging waste collectors and recyclers was to expand recovery and buyback scheme based on Coca-Cola System’s compliance plan on EPR.
Wecyclers’ Chief Executive Officer, Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola thanked the donor for their supports, including earlier donation of eight Wecyclers in December 2013. NBC said it had over the years implemented laudable programmes on energy efficiency, water conservation and promoted sustainable
packaging to reduce carbon footprint and explore solutions that will achieve a “green” culture.
