The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG and t he Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association, PENGASSAN Friday suspended its nationwide strike, which they embarked upon on Monday embarked upon to protest several unresolved issues with the government, including unfair labour practices and non-passage of the  Petroleum Industry Bill.

The unions called off the strike action after a close-door meeting in Abuja between representatives of the union and the Federal Government delegation. The meeting which began Thursday night lasted for over 12 hours. According to Dailypost, a joint communique was issued at the end of the meeting by the leaders both unions and government’s delegation led by the Supervising Labour Minister, Tanimu Turaki.
