PDP Challenges APC To Presidential Debate

As the All Progressive Congress, APC holds its Presidential primaries Wednesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has challenged whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer at the 2015 general elections to a debate, according to Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP.

The PDP will hold its national convention Wednesday and Thursday at the Eagles’ Square, Abuja but it gave conditions under which it said its presidential candidate will engage in a debate with the presidential candidate of the APC.

Metuh stated that Jonathan can only engage the APC’s candidate on debate frivolities but on topical issues that will help move the country forward: “We will be willing to debate. We want it, we ask for it because we want Nigerians to know who the best is to lead this country. But let us elevate the conduct of this election,’’ enthused Metuh.

On Jonathan’s chances at the 2015 polls, Metuh said the president is a good product, who has no unquestionable character.

Meanwhile 3,070 delegates had been accredited to endorse the candidature of Jonathan at the convention, even though he remains the sole candidate of the party, Metuh was quoted by a national newspaper.

The endorsement, he said, was in line with the Electoral Act and the electoral guidelines released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He said the first day of the convention would be used to ratify the selection of the Acting National Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu; the Acting National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo; and the Acting National Auditor, Wale Adeyanju.

He said the party was not aware of the presidential aspiration of Prof. Akasoba Duke Abiola, adding that the aspirant would likely be coming to the convention ground as a delegate.
