Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Akinwunmi Ambode; former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir el-Rufai; a member of House of Representatives, Dakuku Peterside; Olorogun O’tega Emerhor; Okey Ezea; and a former Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Umana Umana have won the tickets of the gubernatorial tickets of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Sokoto, Lagos, Kaduna, Rivers, Delta, Enugu and Akwa Ibom respectively to contest in next year election.
Governors of Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun; Kwara, Abdulfattah Ahmed and Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo,
Ibrahim Gaidam, Yobe; Umaru Al-Makura, Nasarawa; and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara, all won reelection tickets in the primary elections.
In Lagos, Ambode, a former Accountant-General of the state and public administrator defeated 12 other aspirants to clinch the ticket. The aspirants were Speaker, Lagos Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; sitting senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon; incumbent Works and Infrastructure Commissioner in the state, Obafemi Hamzat; former Lagos Attorney General, Supo Shasore; former Commissioners of Rural Integration, and Health, Tola Kasali and Lekan Pitan; one-time aide of ex-Governor Bola Tinubu, Tayo Ayinde; Adekunle Disu; Tokunbo Wahab, Lanre Ope and the only female contestant Tokunbo Agbesanwa.
In Ogun State, it was no surprise Governor Ibikunle Amosun clinched the ticket. A familiar opponent to challenge Amosun ‘s throne is his estranged deputy, Segun Adesegun. Oyo Sate saw Governor Abiola Ajimobi trounced a son of ex-Governor Lamidi Adesina, Ayobami to take the ticket.
Sokoto’s APC governorship ticket had four contestants, namely Professor Lawal Bashir, Yusha’u Ahmed Kebbe, Senator Umaru Dahiru Tambawal and Jibrin Bello Gada. Tambuwal polled 3,466 votes to emerge tops.
In Yobe and Rivers State, Governor Ibrahim Gaidem and Peterside emerged consensus candidates. Similar procedures produced the party’s candidates in Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Kwara and Zamfara States.
