Last Friday’s death of a boy, Elijah Omoloye, 18, caused by a log, which fell off a lorry, sparked fury among villagers of Olodo Community in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, on Tuesday. No sooner did the lorry driver realised he had killed the boy than he fled the scene. While the driver escaped, his assistant was not so lucky, and was lynched by a mob. The villagers further banned lorries from carrying logs in the area. But their warnings only yielded resistance from the lorry drivers, who vowed to go on with their trade. Brimming with anger, the villagers decided to confront them, an action which ultimately turned violent, and paralysed commercial activities in the community. The tension was said to have attracted the attention of men of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, NSDC, but Newsbreak.Ng cannot ascertain if any arrests were made.
