Don’t Panic, State Govt Tells Residents
The Rivers State Government has affirmed a cholera outbreak that have so far killed 20 people in Andoni Local Government Area of the state. In a statement by the state Health Commissioner, Dr. Sampson Parker, about 171 cases were reported in some communities within the area.
He said two treatment centres in Ebukuma and Okoli’ile have been established by both the local and state governments to manage and give advice to residents, since the breakout on 5 January.
“The state emergency response team and the social mobilization team are already on ground to assess and manage the situation,” the commissioner said.
In addition, Parker said boreholes would be sunk in the area as part of measures to prevent the disease from spreading. Parker urged people in the state not to panic and assured government has brought the occurrence under its control.
