2015: Akwa Ibom REC Assures Readiness, Receives 3,813 Card Readers

Akwa Ibom State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, now has 3,813 card readers to be deployed for voter accreditation, the Resident Electoral Commissioner Austin Okojie stated. Okojie spoke, Monday, at a Forum of Political Parties, Security Agencies, the Media and Civil Society Organisations in Uyo, the state capital. He explained that voters would be accredited upon presenting their permanent voter card, and that the non-transferable card readers have been configured for specific polling unit.

“Reading of the PVCs would take only three minutes per voter,” while the exercise will take place between 8 a.m and 1 p.m, Okojie explained. The commissioner noted that the PVC distribution improved, with 1,462,780 PVCs received and 1,328,715 or 91.4 per cent distributed.

The commissioner urged politicians and their supporters to shun violence and ensure free, fair and credible elections.
