The trials of alleged Army mutineers has recorded yet another death sentences by firing squad for four soldiers of the 111 Special Forces Battalion, Maiduguri, in Borno State. The verdict put at 70 the total number of soldiers sentenced by a General Military Court Martial instituted by the Army authorities to try some soldiers for various misconducts in their counter-insurgency operations in the troubled northeast. The death verdicts, according to investigations, was handed to the affected soldiers on 24 December, 2014, by the president of the military court, Brigadier General Musa Yusuf. About 54 soldiers had earlier been tried and directed to die at the stake. Aside the condemned four, five others accused of refusing to take command from their commander were acquitted and discharged of the offences.
