The presidential ambition of Muhammadu Buhari, a former military head of state, got a boost, on Monday, when his retired soldier-colleague, Ibrahim Babangida, declared support for him. Babangida, one-time military president, during a campaign visit by Buhari and leaders of the All Progressives Congress to his house in Minna, the capital of Niger State, said “all of us will support you in this course to salvage this country’’.
Babangida also lauded the party for its sacrifice at salvaging the country, especially the choice of Buhari as its presidential flag bearer.
“I wish to congratulate members of the party for the honour of nominating my colleague, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as your presidential candidate in 2015 elections,” he said.
Buhari thanked Babangida for the camaraderie demonstrated towards him.
The apparent support for Buhari by Babangida comes a month after he was touted to have equally endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan, during which the latter described Babangida as “my father”.
