Boko Haram Captures Monguno, As Troops Resist Attack

boko haram fightersPeace is gradually returning to Maiduguri, in Borno State, after soldiers repelled an attack on it by Boko Haram insurgents. The battle, which began Saturday night, reportedly recorded casualties on the sides of the troops and insurgents. But while the military rooted the insurgents from occupying Maiduguri, a neighbouring town Monguno is believed to have been taken over by the insurgents. PREMIUM TIMES claimed a senior army official confirmed Monguno had fallen to the insurgents, including a military barracks located therein. To effectively secure the battle area, the army has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the town. Spokesperson of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Sani Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the “curfew will remain till further notice.”
