Islamic militants suspected to be Boko Haram on Sunday took dozens of people hostage in Cameroonian villages of Maki and Mada in the Tourou district near Mokolo city. Many of the kidnapped were children, while four villagers who tried to fend off the attackers were killed. The incident, the BBC reports, has been confirmed by Cameroon’s Information Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary. Bakary tentatively gave the victims figure to be between 30 and 50 people. “They burnt to ashes almost 80 houses,” the minister said. There are conflicting figures on the actual number of kidnapped people.
