Boko Haram militants were, on Wednesday, repelled in Biu, Borno State, by federal forces and the youths. The insurgents were said to have invaded the town through its southern flank, with the intent of overrunning a military barracks located in the town. It was apparent the villagers had a foreknowledge of the intrusion and had, alongside soldiers, held positions in anticipation of the boko haram attack. A resident, Kaka Ali said to Premium Times that “Our boys have already taken strategic position waiting for them, at the moment, the soldiers are battling them. All we can hear now are gunshots from the direction of the barracks.” The group has seized many towns in Borno and Adamawa States in recent months.
